  • Customised computers

My desktop died a few weeks ago and I couldn't get a new one that suited me so I'm working with a couple of laptops at the moment.

I don't want Windows 8 so I've been browsing around looking for Windows 7 computers, laptops and all-in-ones, preferably laptops with large screen of at least 17.3" and also desktops with larger iiyama monitors.

Yeah ok I'm just dreaming, for the moment anyway, but yesterday I came across THIS SITE and I've been configuring 'dream machines' for myself ever since. None of my dream machines have been too, too expensive either.

I've never bought anything from the above website and I know nothing about them but I thought I'd share the url anyway so anyone else interested can have a look.

I'd also be interested to know if anyone knows anything about the company, their service and their after sales. The 'about us' details look good and there are also forums with peeps offering feedback etc.

I hope y'all enjoy dreaming as much as I have been and will probably continue to do so for a while yet.

I wanna large screen top-notch high powered all-in one or a high spec desktop with a large iiyama monitor but in the meantime I'll carry on enjoying my 17.3" Lenovo laptop with its Intel Pentium B970 2.3GHz, 4Gb RAM and Windows 7.

Right, I'm away back to to that website configure myself another dream-machine.

    Re: Customised computers

not directly related to your post but I looked into prices of a notebook PC I have in mind at that site you linked. Interestingly resulting price is more or less similar between UK and Japan. Because of the recent yen depreciation against other major currencies, the prices of foreign goods have become expensive. but instead make our prices here look similar more or less, tho not less expensive yet.

I bought an UPG version of Win 8 and SSD last month but not have installed it on any of PCs I use. (just I'm lazy and the PCs have other problems to be solved.)

Yesterday I placed an order for Win 7 at Amazon.jp after thinking about for a few days which is better Win 7 or Win 8. The special price offer for Win 8 ends on Jan.31. (well, I still use two Vista machines and want to change the OS. That's why. - in addition to one Win 7 PC.)

BTW I just think if your OS is 64bit (whether it's Win 7 or Win8 ), then it would be better to have 8GB memory, preferably 16GB. Unlike dest top PC, it seems troublesome to increase memory capacities later in case of notebook. Just my opinion. It's funny that I say this as my PCs do not satisfy what I have said here. They are all LGA775 M/B mashines. Want LGA1155 someday.

You seem to be enjoying the configuration anyway and me too for a notebook.

P.S. I donot know why but the ad banner at the top shows a notebook ad from one jananese shop brand. Do they or DPNow read my mind? Ultrabook with core i-5 and HDD+SSD, 14" screen + 8GB memory and Win 8 for yen 59850 (UK pounds around 415?).

Yes, Yoshi, the ad banners do indeed read your mind.

I think it's something to do with cookies and other tracking that picks up your location and what you're browsing to enable the page to target what are likely to be suitable ads or you- so you get ads for a notebook in Japan an I get them for notebooks in t he uk. Mine keeps showing Lenovo as I've bought 3 recently - all inexpensive ones to tide us over for the moment until Windows 8 has had a couple of service packs or been superceded by a new OS.

I'd have liked more memory and a better processor in my 17.3" lenovo but there wasn't anything else available with Windows 7 so I grabbed the best I could get and also at a special offer price so I'm happy with it for now. It has a nice screen, calibrated well with Spyder 4 Express and I installed CS6 on it today, which runs well on it - no problems so far. I keep my files on external drives, only have the applications on the laptop so it should be fine for a couple of years or more.

In the meantime I'll keep configuring new machines for myself and maybe one of my sons will take pity on me and buy me a desktop with a large, beautiful monitor or perhaps an all-in-one that will be easy for my aged eyes, instead of me having to squint at bargain priced entry level laptops.

I'm happy enough as long as I have a reasonable screen, a reasonably fast internet connection and an up-to-date version of Photoshop on my main computer, albeit a fairly basic Lenovo laptop at the moment.

My Vista desktop died in December so I decided to allow my husband to have my iiyama monitor and my son is currently formatting the old desktop HD and filling it with films which my husband will watch on his Lenovo ideapad.

Better a medium laptop than a dead desktop and at least I managed to find something with Windows 7 installed.

        Re: Customised computers

I was running Win 7 64 bit with Microsoft Office 2010 Professional, Adobe Creative Suite 6 and Lightroom 4 on my old HP laptop running just 4GB and it was surprisingly OK
