  • Cannot connect my old computer to the internet

I have also posted this problem on the Talktalk forum, but thought I might get a speedier reply here.

    We live in a bungalow.

I have a new computer Windows 7 which connected immediately to the internet via the wired router - HUAWEI HG532.

The computer it replaced (my old one and now my husband's) also Windows 7 and previously having a wired connection to the router, has been moved into another room where my husband's computer XP was. (This XP computer was old and refused to boot so we got rid of it, however, it connected to the internet WIRELESSLY without any problem).

My old computer (previously wired) will not connect wirelessly to the internet in its new location.

I have good connection speeds 13.08 Mbps.

    The information given says:

    Not connected

    Connections are available

    Wireless Network Connection:

Talktalk - showing 3 green bars, also

SKY but this is not ours.

I opened network and sharing centre and went through trouble shooting, but still cannot connect although the little internet progress wheel appeared to turn blue as though it was trying to connect.

Can you please throw any light on this.

BTW there is a netbook and laptop in the lounge - both are connected wirelessly. Also my grandson brought his iPad and that also connected immediately wirelessly.

Re: Cannot connect my old computer to the internet

    Hi Autumn

My first thing would be to check the TCP/IP settings for this network device.

You almost certainly want to make sure that it is set to use DHCP (that is "to obtain an IP address automatically").

This page might help you find the right place to do this: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/w...CP-IP-settings

Re: Cannot connect my old computer to the internet

Has the computer in question every been connect to the router wirelessly? If not, you will need to find the pass key for your router (often on the back of the router box) and type that in when prompted after clicking on the talktalk entry in the list of available wireless routers in range. Or am I pointing out the obvious! ?
