Re: Help please from you computer buffs.
Patrick, I'm also on Blueyonder, not that it makes any difference, but when I have lost the WiFi connection I simply unplugged it, then reconnected and things seemed to right themselves. I suppose it would be more than one could ask for it to work with you and no doubt you have already tried it.

Re: Help please from you computer buffs.
Patrick, is it a wireless router or wired-only one?
If it is a wireless one, are you getting connected to the router, so the problem is the connection from the router to the modem? I'm presuming you connect the router to the modem?
Or is it that you have no wireless connection to the router?
If the problem is wireless, have you tried connecting your PC to the router using an Ethernet cable?

Re: Help please from you computer buffs.
It all rather depends on how the router was configured. Did you select an unusual local IP address range? Most routers use 192.168.0.x or 192.168.1.x by default, but if you set the router to a different range, say, 192.168.155.x and forced your PCs to use fixed IP addresses, if the router reset itself, there would be an IP range mis-match.
For now, let's assume this isn't the case. Have you tried a hard-reset of your router. This usually requires pressing a reset switch, which may be a very small, almost hidden, button, for say 10 seconds.
Can you tell us the make and model of your wireless router?

Re: Help please from you computer buffs.
When resetting to factory defaults it's best to try to connect using a cable rather than wirelessly, though if the wireless is working you should see the default SSID (wireless name) show up in your wireless status display.
Routers are, in my experience, not the most reliable of devices. Though the one I have here at the moment has been working for about two years non-stop, the one it replaced only lasted less than a year and two of my relatives, on two different occasions and places, had failed routers after power cuts. In all of these the wireless worked but the built in modem of the ADSL routers (different makes) would no longer sync with the ADSL service.
If you can't get into the config using a wire connection, it sounds pretty terminal to me, especially after a hardware reset (you did remember to keep the reset button firmly pressed for about 10 seconds?).
How old is the router? It might still be under warranty.
If you have to replace it, I'd recommend Belkin - I've had very few problems with these and they are easy to set up.

Patrick.
Open explorer, it will fail of course, but when it does. Type in your IP 192.168.0.*, click on go just like you would if hunting for a web site. A little box should open, asking for a password, type in admin.
Then click on the stats tab, or whatever you router calls it. You will see a link for disconnect do it. A window will come up for connect click on that, all should be reset now. Mine does this when ever some one call on a blinking cell phone, I really don't have an explanation for this.
