I have an ancient Dell Inspiron XP lappy upstairs in the bedroom. That sometimes does peculiar things too. I usually just do a hard shutdown on it, curse and threaten to bin it, then it always behaves again when I reboot.
Yes that's exactly what I did, but it didn't work. After I had posted here, I noticed that Windows was updating something and I wondered if that had stopped it. Anyway, it is working now, thanks.
Hi Audrey - if it happens again, it could be that the ribbon cable connecting the keyboard to the motherboard is loose. It's unlikely, but a possibility.
