  • UNSOLVED Linux Packages Help

Hi all. Got Linux up and running here on a spare laptop, just downloaded 'Opera' for it and have the 'Package' on the desktop. When I open the package with Synaptic Package Manager I get lost completely then! Any ideas how to extract Opera (or any other package I might download in the future) Thanks

    Re: Linux Packages Help

    Hi Ekkl

Yippee - at last a Linux user! Congratulations!

Personally I find Synaptic a bit of a pain for installing downloaded packages.

The easier way is to open a terminal and use: dpkg -i <package file name>

You will need superuser or root privileges.

If the install fails due to unsatisfied dependencies you can then run Synaptic and use it to "fix broken packages".

    Hope that helps
    David
