  • Computer e-mail problem

I don't know if this is the correct place to air this but here goes. To the admin if it is not admiissable please feel free to delete it.

A friend of mine who is the organiser for our U3A Photography group sends out to all in the group, details of what will be on the agenda for the next monthly meeting. His ISP is 'pipex.com' who I believe have been take over by 'Talk-Talk'. Well some members of the the group including myself whose ISPs happen to be 'Virgin' and have e-mail addresses ending in 'ntlworld.com' have not been receiving the e-mails with the agenda details. My friend can receive e-mails from me but I cannot receive any from him. We have both complained to our respective ISPs who say they have investigated and cannot find the reason or answer. My friend says that the e-mails do not 'bounce' back as 'undeliverable'. I would like to hear of anyone else who may have had similar eaxperiences and did they get the problem solved.. ?

I can't help with your problem Dennis but can suggest a possible alternative. It does appear that ntlworld is being screened out by Talk talk for some unknown reason.
It is a simple matter to download a free email programme - Windows Live mail - for instance. It doesn't solve your problem but will allow you to receive your group mail

No Dennis. I'm just making that assumption based on the info in your post.

I use windows live mail myself and it accepts mail from all of my accounts but there are others that I'm sure will do the job just as well. such as.....
        gmail, GM4 & yahoo

          Re: Computer e-mail problem

          Hi Dennis

Unfortunately this sort of thing has been happening for years - and is almost impossible to sort out. It could be that one of the NTL mail servers has ended up on a TalkTalk blacklist, or it could be that NTL are dropping mail from TalkTalk servers for a similar reason - and you don't know which it is.

Usually if the NTL server is on a black list and TT are therefore not delivering to it then TT would send a bounce message back to their punter. However, if NTL are just ignoring the messages from TT (because they judge them to be spam) then it is likely you would get no bounce message (as in this case). (So I guess, IMHO this is an NTL problem).

You can see here a discussion about a similar problem 5 years ago! http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/80...ed-by-ntl.html

You could try raising a support ticket with NTL?

Personally, I use Gmail for everything and have no problem. It has the advantage of being ISP independent and accessible from any (internet connected) computer.

            Re: Computer e-mail problem

Thanks everyone for replies. It would appear after much investigation that it is a rather complex problem with no simple solution. None of the ISPs concerned will own up to stopping e-mails but they all do it and sometimes they themselves do not know where the stoppage is occurring as it is the servers that they use who are doing it in order to stop spam and phishing.
