    There already is - from Leica, with their S2 system:



    Hasselblad, and Mamiya have medium format DSLRs, too.

      Hi.

      I think there will be one measuring 30mm x 45mm and also one measuring 36mm x 48mm. I think one will be called a Leica S2 and the other a Mamiya ZD. Now I come to think of it, the Mamiya was announced in 2004.

      Seriously though, be careful what you wish for. Larger sensors come with disadvantages as well as advantages. More limited depth of field, greater size, weight and expense being only a few.

      I will take an educated guess that there won't be a sensor measuring over 24mm x 36mm in a truly mass market camera any time soon, and a good thing too (and I speak as the user of a MF digital system).
