  • SOLVED My Pentax K10D status screen is flashing 'F'

Here's another problem we have found from a DSLR user pleading for help:

After turning my Pentax K10D on, the LCD status screen flashes 'F'. It's stucl like this and the camera is locked on aperture priority despite being set to Programmed exposure mode!

Have you experienced something similar? If you have one, post your solution here

Neither of us had come across this before but David just went away and recreated the problem on his K10D. (I have a K20D now)

If the lens isn't quite securely attached, even slightly 'not clicked' fully onto the front of the camera - he gets the 'F' flashing on the LCD (ie the screen on the top of the camera).

If the person with the problem can just make sure the bayonet lens has fully clicked into place hopefully all will be well again.

    Hope that helps.

      Thanks Pol!

As I understand it, because the lens is not seated perfectly and the contacts aren't enaged properly, the camera thinks the lens is an older manual focus one, or one with an aperture ring.

Presumably you would get a similar error with most of the istD and K-series DSLRs?

You're probably correct but all that is a tad too technical for me. I've just read out your reply to David but he's gone off into one of his technical lectures so I've sent him away because he's doing my head in!

All I know for sure is that he demonstrated his recreation of the problem on his K10D. We no longer have any of the very old Pentax-fit lenses that need the manual focus or aperture ring either so we have nothing here to try the suggestion. I'm not sure we ever did have any of them left lying around that didn't have the 'A' either.

He's prone to 'blinding me with science' but I'll let you know if he comes up with anything else I can follow clearly enough to pass on.
