  • Kiss from Canon

It looks like Canon will introduce a successor to 450D (in North America, "XSi" ? - in Japan, it is nicknamed "Kiss X2" ) between autumn and the end of the year, according to a newspaper issued on March 11th, which I read today at a rumor site.
(The source newspaper is a trustworthy one so I think it is worth posting.)

It says the successor will have full HD video mode. The main target user (of this feature, I guess) is said to be a young couple with an infant.
The movie mode is good for recording the very moment when an infant starts walking for the first time. (the paper's comments, not mine)

No further info is available. (= not sure if AF is possible while "filming" - I doubt it atm. )

    ***************

    my remarks;
Another indirect teaser campaign? - why started so early?
Will a pre-production model be exhibited at PIE (Tokyo Camera show)?

    ***************

I admit I'm interested in Video mode these days.
At the moment I occasionally practice it at an aquarium, using a compact camera at the moment.

Hi Yoshi, thanks for the news

I know that one DSLR maker will launch a new model at the end of this month. Another brand will announce a new model around May time.

      Re: Kiss from Canon

      Hi Ian,
so two more are coming until the end of May, hmmm ...

      OK, my GUESS.

Nikon introduced D60 in Feb,2008 which has same body shell as D40. I first thought D60 must be a successor to D40.
But it seems to be wrong. A Nikon guy (Mr. Nakayama, manager of some div. of Nikon) implies in a interview that a successor to D40 is on progress.

If that is the case, then it means that D60 is not a direct successor to D40 and that the real successor to D40 is yet coming.
So my bet is D40's successor must be one of the two.

About one more model of another brand ... humyu... no idea honestly ...but just let me continue my guess ...

Pentax says that a new model is to be introduced into the same price category as K20D in early Summer and that the successor to K200D will be coming at the end of the year.
So another one would not be a Pentax. (Incidentally Pentax does not call it a successor to K20D ... but anyway a successor to it from our viewpoint.)

Sigma SD15? - I do not think so. It would take some more time until they can introduce it. So it can not be a Sigma.

Oly micro FT? - it's not a DSLR and Oly already mentioned it would be in Summer. So not a micro FT, I guess.

Sumsung says the NX is coming in the second half of the year.

To recapitulate, the remaining one can not be a Nikon/Pentax/Oly/Sigma/Samsung...

Well then, Sony? - no idea at all. They have already plenty of models and most of them are relatively new, iirc. Well, they announced that A200 was discontinued and in that sense one more model coming soon could be a Sony but I'm not that sure ...

Or another Canon? - do they change the 18-month rule? Then, a successor to 1000D? A successor to 50D is less likely but a minor updating which has a video mode could be possible, as having a video mode is seemingly getting an important feature these days. But not sure at all...

Or Pany?- less likey, as they just anounced GH1 recently. Pany cannot introduce two new models in a short period of time in this segment.

      Fuji? - least likely.

Leica S2? Pentax 645D? - You did not say the two are both 35mm type of cameras. - now completely confusing to me.

      ****************

You know what I'm thinking now? I suddenly feel as if I were a dog who was told to wait in front of tasty food ... I just recall dogs's eye when I told him/her so - many years ago - what a sinful man I was, I confess.

Somewhere my guessing must be wrong or I must be overlooking something, which I do not realize atm.
Hopefully somebody can help me in guessing.
