Nikon D90 & Canon 50D in high ISO range

After several meetings with many people interested in both cameras I have just completed the on-line presentation comparing them. The comparison include on-screen analysis (pixel peeping) and analysis of prints (in. 8x12, 12x28, 16x24). ISO range 800-12800. Daylight and low light. To facilitate the assessment relevant Nikon and Canon photos are showed in pairs.

You've put a lot of work into your compariosn document; well done

If you look at DxoMark you will see that they basically agree with your findings:

I've not yet tested either camera, but I do trust the guys at DxO implicitly.

It seems the D90 sensor is even improved over the D300.

A couple of thinsg I wondered: it looks like some of your comparison shots are the same size on the page, when the EOS-50D images should be larger because of the increased pixel density? If you resized the sample, you're introducing new factors (interpolation softness).

Also, have you tried printing the results? I have sometimes seen some uninspiring looking images on-screen, but they printed beautifully.

No, I don't resized photos. If you read the whole presentation you'll find the analysis of prints. I agree the prints are less demanding. I also agree that D90 performance is even better than that in D300. Mainly due to improved in-camera software, I believe. Thank you for info about DxO. I like them very, very much.

Hello,
the difference between the cameras seems just too much. 50D images are too much soft. And 50D images seem to be underexposed to my eye which would be a direct hit for a noise levels.

Looking over the document I have noticed the printing sheets. Here you noted you took pictures using f8 - f14 for D90 but f16 - f22 for 50D. It clears up the softness due to diffraction.

If it is true then the test is rubbish and you should remove it immediately.

I had used Nikon D90 for several years and liked it, so I thought why not again try for the same brand and the camera really work great for me.
The D90 is solid, tight, and well-balanced with the 18-105 VR lens.It's always ready and it shoots very fast. I love all the direct access buttons; they're easy to press, with good tactile feedback.its superb sensor and spot-on feature set, can actually help you improve your technique and get better results.It has CMOS sensor in APS-C format with which mega pixels and a pixel pitch of 5.5 microns provides 12.3.
It has Some Good Point
-Great sensor, amazing colors out of the camera
-Auto D-lighting to restore shadowed regions
-Great 320K dots LCD
-Video feature is great.. you can make some really slick short movies after some practice. It is a bit difficult to master both autofocus and zoom and exposure
