Thanks for your comments - now just need to see where he is... He'd posted a message on ex-partner's birding forum... but has replied to me to say it's still available.
Now just hoping if I shell out for this I don't lose my job in the department review on Wednesday!

And Josh - wow. I hope I can something half as good as that!

Thanks Ian - I hadn't been able to find a decent review, so that was interesting...

I did go and buy the lens... and the redundancy consultations start in about half an hour
