Re: Sony Alpha 900 full frame DSLR hands on news update
It was an interesting and exciting report from the very place of the press conference, as usual.Sony UK is hoping to get first production units into shops by the end of this month, though the full flow of product will be mid-October.
Ian
I envied the 100 percent view finder coverage.
I read that the production volume would be 5000 units monthly. So judging from the enthusiusm that I felt after reading lots of responses here (and probably other areas), I wonder if "full flow" would really start from the middle of October. I get an impression that the price has been relatively accepted favourably, so all the more ...

Thanks Yoshi - it was nice of Sony to provide the live access from the press conference.
I have a lot more technical notes, which I'm preparing today to accompany the sample images

Re: Sony Alpha 900 full frame DSLR hands on news update
Hi Ian,
I had one additional thought on the "what to do with all that resolution" idea. Using the camera in the APS crop mode, the resolution reduces to a more useful level and you gain, for those like me who like to see what is outside of the capture field, as you can with the Leica RF finder, a useful composition tool. This doesn't address the noise & DR question, but the crop in whole frame could challenge a unique aspect of the Leica M finder. The option of jumping to full frame resolution in those medium format moments would be nice. This looks like a better implimentation of the concept than what Sigma had on the SD9. Another gain might be that some of the lenses with soft edges could be more useable.
For those that haven't use a Leica M viewfinder, it is great when subjects are in motion, be it wildlife, people at parties or press conferences or children and pets cavorting in the yard...
It is like a visual cookie cutter.
This makes the a900 more interesting to me.
Bob
