  • Pentax announcement!

Pentax Japan announced at its official site today (wee morning of Jan 14th) that Pentax will make a full page advertisement for all together six newspapers on Jan 25th or 26th. (three each)
An earlier rumour said that Pentax would make annoucement either on Jan 11th or Jan 25th. I closely watched on the 11th but no official annoucement was available.

This makes sense - just a few days before PMA and I know that Pentax UK has been entertaining some UK journos in Dubai last week (DPNow not included this time - oh well, we can't got to all theses events, you know! )

Just for fun - as I believe you are having irritating times due to the transfer.

At one of our rumour sites, I found an interesting links to old Pentax TV commercial ads; They were talking about the rumoured K20D, K200D or K1D or 645D... that's not worth special attention but I find the links are funny. I do not follow well but now topics are Pentax marketing.

The first one: Pentax MG (I do not recall how old it is... an MF (manufal focus camera)

The second one: long (more than 3 min.) - a part of it might not be suitable for those people who have stricter sexial ethic standards - but I would add that it met (then stricter) Japanese criteria in those days (I guess in the 70's) - so I thought it would be ok to post it here.

Who posted these old TV ads to 'you tube'? - that's more pleasant surpirse to me.

Thanks Yoshi - it's taking longer than we had hoped to fix things but we have made progress today.

Thanks for the links - I know Pol will probably enjoy them

          We both did, thanks Yoshi.

The second one is especially good - great stuff! David still has one of those cameras in his collection here. It's good hearing the genuine Japanese pronounciation of "Asahi Pentax" too. We'll both be pronouncing it that way forever more now. Brilliant!

That was us making the advert of course. I'm the one who did the self portrait in the water.

David's pointing his old spotmatic "Asahi Pentax" at me as I type and we're both glued to the advert trying to get our Japanese accent right. Superb whirring sound from the delayed timer too.

So it is really YOU, Pol!? Nice to talk with you once again!

Well, about the Japanese accent, this might be of your interest. [ame]http://jp.youtube.com/watch?v=qs9svuf8g88&feature=related[/ame]

The cartoon figures repeatedly saying "pen-ta-kkusu" as if it were a tongue twister. But do not try to practice the last guy's pronunciation of "Pen-ta-kkuso" - (k)kuso in Japanese means exactly same as "s**t"

That's hilarious! I probably won't be able to resist saying Pen-ta-kkuso from now on. Maybe that guy is a Canon or Nikon user feeling envious because he doesn't have a Pentax.

I see they had a cartoon figure of me sitting on a camel.

Yep, I also realized that. Was it also covered by the contract then?

A post of one guy I read at one site:

                    トヨタ2000GT、コスモスポーツ、フェアレディーZが脇役
                    主役はホンダN360、 面白いCMだね
                    モデルもかわいい。

He is referring to the CM of your driving a car. You drive a mini car with a tiny engine of 360cc (a Honda N360). He detected that the three cars you overtook are in order Toyota 2000 GT, Mazda Cosmo Sports and Nissan Fairlady Z. Those are well known sports cars in those days here. James Bond also used 2000GT in his movie filmed in Japan.

So he said: (this morning of Jan 15th)
                    ******************
"Main player is Honda N360. - Toyota2000GT, Cosmo Sports and Fairlady Z are just supporting players. Interesting CM"

and added (this is the important part! )

                    "the model is really pretty"
                    ******************

I now feel as if I knew the most important secret of this universe!

                    yoshi

p.s. As you implied, I believe those three cars mean most likely Nikon, Canon and Minolta those days. Could be Oly instead of Minolta.

Aaaah yes, we noiced the mini too. Those were the days, the days when I was still young, beautiful, foot-loose and free. I was also delighted to see that Mini as I'd learned to drive with that Mini. I had 3 of them until I eventually went incognito with a Lada and an overdraft to pay for it.

Sad to report no money ever arrived for my appearance in the advert but they sent me a year's supply of eels so I could 'smoke' my own Unagi. I suppose I shouldn't grumble too loudly -- or they might send me another year's supply of the wretched creatures! It's difficult holding those slippery creatures still so you can 'light' them.

My Mini was tuned up of course. I needed it to be extra fast as all those Canon, Nikon and Minolta users often chased me so they could try to steal my Pentax.

I'm much slower these days. The Camel is slow but quite reliable. I met an 'Omar Sharif' lookalike on that camel and eventually married him and his collection of cameras and other kit, which has continued to grow.
