As usual for FUN only:
while I was lurking a rumor site yesterday, a guy just mentioned that the coming Nikon D300 was just superb and far exceeds the coming Canon 40D.
A usual another rumor, maybe from a Nikon fanboy with no specific information - I thought. BUT somehow I tried to search more and found another rumor site/blog I've never been. The followings are excerpts from that one - well I admit I though it interesting.

-two models and five lenses to be announced on Aug.23rd at 13:00 at Japan time:
D3X:
"FX" format [looks like it means Full Frame] 12Mp CMOS sensor made by Nikon
9 fps - 11 fps possible when cropped to DX format size (that is APS-C size)
ISO 200-6400: adjustable to Lo 1 (ISO 100 equivalent) , Hi 2 (ISO 25600 equivalent)
D300:
DX format [APS-C size] 12 Mp CMOS (no reference here whether it is made by Nikon or not- anyway the sensor size is different from the D3X)
6 fps - 8 fps with battery grip (no cropping here)
ISO 200-3200: adjustable to Lo 1 (ISO 100 equivalent), Hi 1 (ISO 6400 equivalant)
For the both models:
AF: 51 AF points: 15 of which are cross type sensors
Live View: when live view is on, "contrast AF" is used.
Five lenses: all AF-S type
AF-S Nikkor 14-24mm F2.8G
AF-S Nikkor 24-70mm F2.8G
AF-S VR Nikkor 400mm F2.8G
AF-S VR Nikkor 500mm F4G
