Being rather new to the world of slr I couldn't really place a vote based on comparison.
I do now have an 'is' lens and can see a great difference with hand held shots but I have no experience of the 'in camera is'

Sorry about that Patrick, the only thing I can think of is that you might have accidentally voted but I've had a look at the admin panel on the poll and your account is not listed as having voted.

Try logging out and logging back in or doing a refresh (CTRL+F5 on Internet Explorer) and see if that does the job.

Now logged on and off a number of times and still the voting panel will not show.
Also logged on from a differant computer still no joy.

Hi Patrick - thanks for trying those options. Would appear to rule out cookies. There is nothing unusual about your account settings, so I'll flag this with the vBulletin support people. Nobody else has reported a problem with the poll so far.

Like Stephen and Patrick I am commited to the Canon system and have to vote for stabilised lenses. I have a 24-105 L, I shoot a lot in low light (and I fight shy of flash whenever I can) and the results are superb, I leave IS on all the time. The reviews would suggest that there is no compromise involved in optical IS (70-200 f2.8 IS, 300 f4 IS and that 24-105 f4 IS to name but three!) though there is a cost implication!

However, I would imagine Canon must be investigating an in-camera system for future models, they're realising the need/sales potential in their latest compact offerings.

Actually, reviews I have read give the non-IS version of the 70-200 f/2.8L the edge in image quality

Hmm...looking at the extensive user reviews on a n other website (which I obviously only looked at by accident ), the general consensus seems to be that if there is a difference it is marginal and the lens is pretty damn fine with or without OIS and is regarded as one of the best offerings from Canon! I would love one in place of my f4 non-IS version for sure!
