  • Cheap batteries.

I ordered a couple (seemed rude not to!) and gave them a full charge and so far, so good. I took 60 odd shots yesterday* without incident so I'm assuming they're going to last as long as the Canon branded battery.

    * playing with my new Gary Fong Lightsphere - more of which later possibly. Test results look good so far although the cat is probably not the best subject to test it on - I'll be shooting humans over the weekend - assuming the daughter or 'er indoors will sit for me.

Thinking about it, what I saved on the batteries almost paid for the Lightsphere....

7DayShop are pretty good; I have bought things on and off from them and even when I ordered the wrong item, I was able to get a replacement for no hassle.

They are the best value I have seen AA and AAA rechargeables and their own-brand batteries are good quality. They also sell filters and inexpensive tripods and other accessories.

      Re: Cheap batteries.

I once bought a Canon lens from 7dayshop (my original 75-300mm I think it was) and it was significantly cheaper than anywhere else. I then considered buying my 60mm EF-S Macro from them but thought about it too long and all lenses suddenly disappeared from their listings.

I did mail them and ask if they were going to get back into the lens business but I got a fairly vague reply about them "having no plans to" - I wondered if they got int trouble with Canon over pricing or sourcing of the kit. Guess the other UK sellers might have had an issue? (Not that I'm suggesting price-fixing or cartels!!)

I gather on the grapevine that the Canon stock they had didn't come from Canon UK... but that's only a rumour.

          expect to pay more" Twit.

I read recently that the cost of supplying European markets is higher than the US due to the cost of printing multi-lingual manuals etc. Funny how my Canon zoom lens, purchased on eBay from the US, had multi-lingual documentation.

Getting cynical in my old age.......

I have to say that when I travel, for instance, to the States, I find that not only do I see better prices, but better service and choice as well.

I don't buy the 'smaller market' argument. The UK has 60 million people all tightly packed in to a relatively small area. People are much more spread out in the USA.

I think buyers expect and get more in the USA and in other countries - both in terms of value for money and range of choice.
