Hey Bob, I wasn't looking for an argument; just some clarification or perhaps even some evidence to support your stated claim, that's all. I had no knowledge of anyone concluding objectively that Nikon lenses were better than Canon, which is why I mentioned it. Hopefully that curiosity didn't suggest that I was seeking a heated discussion..?

Brand wars have never bothered me either, but I was happy to move from Nikon to Canon for the setup which suited me, as opposed to remaining loyal to a manufacturer which (at the time) had run out of options as far as my needs were concerned. The D2x was and still is a great piece of kit - you should be delighted with it - but for someone who needed a camera capable of exemplary high-ISO performance, it didn't suit me. It wasn't an easy decision to make - I had to sell my entire Nikon system and start from scratch, so you can probably appreciate how the differences affected me.

I was disapointed with the low light shots i took using a Canon ID 11 + 70-200 IS lense , but i except it could have been either a faulty unit or operater error .
Well it depends on a number of factors and of course the conditions, but I suppose it could've been a dodgy sample. I've heard from Canon sources that the non-IS version of that lens is superior and my experiences with it (Stephen has the non-IS) have been very positive. On the other hand, when I was still using Nikon I had a Nikkor 80-200mm f2.8D ED and it was spectacularly good

Tim i'll argue with anyone , anytime , but face to face
Forum arguements always tend to get heated because the printed word is inpersonal and often comes out completely different to how it's meant to .

Now back to our arguement , I can't back up what i said it was just a opinion i had when i used the Canon , and a feeling it was'nt as reponsive as my VR system , nothing i could put my finger on , just a feeling .
Plus i think we do take notice of other opinions on other forums regardless of proof .
Brand loyality ? , ahh i could talk for hours about that , yes i'm guilty of it , i love my Nikon system , you love your Canons , others love Pentax , Olympus or Minolta , nothing wrong with that , it's when others turn it into reason to start a nasty ignorant rant that i turn off , and frankly switch off .

      B..

Yup, I'm exactly the same. People are somehow more polite in person, don't you find..?

Everything is a matter of personal preference and personal judgment.
Though personal judgment might be different from accurate judgment.

An example opposed to your personal opinion Tim, would be for example that I personally wouldn't give 5000 BP for Canon EOS-1Ds Mk II when Canon hasn't manage to solve the Purple Fringing problem in its top class Model while Nikon did and Purple Fringing is related mostly to the lens and less to the removal from the camera's processing engine.

I don't know what they Nikonians or Canonists say in Photosig, but what I wrote is evidence shown in side by side comparison of these two models.

Remember Chinon, I've still got one somewhere! Offers anyone? lol

Oh, and I've just bought a Nikon D80, 18-135mm. So I am starting from scratch.

I started with old kodak's and brownies but my first SLR was a nikon FM thanks to my little brothers generosity.

Blimey Magicaxeman, you've revived an old thread here ...interesting to read what we were writing three and a half years ago though..

I started with a box brownie and actually drove past the spot where I took my first ever photograph this morning (a horse looking over a gate!). I was about 14 and the camera came from a church jumble sale IIRC. B&W 120 roll film developed by the local village chemist...until I got my own Patterson developing tanks and built my own darkroom (a converted garden shed)..magic happened in that darkroom.

Maybe it's me but Photoshop is not quite so magical..

Getting back to the thread, 3 years on and I'd still stick with Canon..couldn't afford the cost of change now anyway...

Re: Starting from scratch - which system?

I did this just two months ago. Sold all my Olympus 4/3rds kit and bought an entirely new Nikon system. Third time in six years I've changed. I have no brand loaylty whatsoever and choose whatever meets my needs, as I percieve them, at the time.

Surely you would be biased to the brands you have had experience with!
