  • UNSOLVED Do you feel your camera's menus and settings are too difficult to use?

Modern cameras now contain countless functions and sub-function that can affect the operation of all manner of settings. Having the knowledge that you shoudl be using a certain setting at a certain time and then failing, miserably, to find the right menu to enable it is, I wager, not an uncommon experience.

But how difficult do you find it to use your camera to the full? Are the menus clear and accessible enough? Do they make sense? Do you want more settings, less settings or are you happy with what you have?

I used to find Olympus menus impossible. Sometimes in the field I'd be struggling to do the simplest thing. That and the physical size were the main reasons I changed to Sony.

Leica M menus are simplicity personified but the camera is also simple. The later versions than mine may be more comprehensive but still an order less complex than most offerings.

I seem to be one of the few who like the Sony menus. I suspect this is due to the oft voiced criticism "they look as though they are designed by an Engineer." I am an Engineer.

Happy with Olympus menu does like all take time to get used too.
With the ability to set my sets life gets easier, Memory on where things are when wanting a not often used item is my main problem.

Fortunately I am quite okay with the menus and settings on my own camera. However, using friends cameras, or even my sisters over christmas, I've come to the conclusion that many camera-manufacturers make unnecessary under-menus to get to some quite basuc settings.

My wish would be for them to have a Easy-mode and a Pro-mode.

The Easy-mode would be a few different shortcuts for the camera to adjust the basic stuff. Or rather, basic macros that changed a few things at once.

The Pro-mode would have all the menus and settings as normal.

The standard settings on my Canon7D are simple enough, and are used frequently.

But the menus and sub menus to the Custom functions are a little less self explanatory and not played with as often if at all.

I have the custom function settings as I want, and have no real need to change them further.

I think that for a complete novice. The menus and sub menus would look bewildering.
