  • Fujifilm S5 Pro: pics of the new model and sample pics

A Japanese site shows lots of pictures of the soon-to-be-released new model S5 Pro. In the middle of the page, they compare S5 pro and Nikon D200, also by pictures. Mainly explained by lots of pictures so i thought it might be worth posting here. Just ignore the language.

    You can see four official sample pics at;

    富士フイルムのウェブサイト。製品・サービス情報、企業情報など富士フイルムのさまざまな情報がご覧になれます。

PMA is not far away really.

p.s. one point seems worth translation.
The battery is not compatible between S5 and NIkon D200. The two kinds of batteries just look same but actually not interchangeable. Pict are attached here.

Hi Yoshi, the S5 Pro looks identical on the outside to the Nikon D200. This is the first time Fujifilm has not altered the donor Nikon body design.

My Photokina pictures of the S5 Pro are here.

Can you confirm the continuous shooting speed it is capable of. The D200 can reach 5fps, but what about the S5 Pro?

Regrettably nothing is mentioned about it at this site. I tried to find some infor at others but could not find any. We will know it however in 3 days.

What I learned about S5 are:

        1) sensor: effecive 12.34MP CCD - colour live view possible up to 30 seconds
        2) body grip rubbe colour: changed from red (NIkon D200) to black (S5)
        3) On the back (screen) side, the eye-con mark designs (on the left side) are different from D200
        4) finder: coverage ratio, magnification ratio, eye-point - all same as D200
        5) menu and se screen designs are different. S5 seems to have more Fujifilm's compact digicam style menu styles.

Yes, there was '' - the mnemonic for the thumbs up smiley, in "se".

Use the disable smileys option if you need to - which I did for this post.

I remember the live view mode now, from Photokina. Only 30 seconds though, because of heat build up. CCDs run hotter than CMOS (or Panasonic/Olympus LiveMOS sensor). The Olympus E-330 live view mode is not restricted (at least not according to the manual) - there is just a warning not to use extended live view mode with high ISO settings.

Live view screen without tilting - looks to me less appealing?, though I admit, better than nothing. I presume the preview can be turned off for the sake of battery saving?

From the set up menu shown at the site, it seems that the live view is possible only when in manual focus mode. Does it make sense to you? I donot understand.

Yes, that is not surprising because in SLRs the AF sensors work off the focusing screen. The Olympus/Panasonic/Leica live view models don't autofocus using the sensor like compact cameras, so AF requires redeploying the mirror, at least temporarily. However, the Olympus E-330 has a second live view mode that let's you autofocus, but the view is not via the main sensor, but using a semi-silvered mirror in the reflex system that focuses on a secondary CCD.
