  • Nikon D90 - opinions please

I am sure there are Nikon D90 users on this forum. I have been considering the purchase of a 2nd body. I want is something relatively inexpensive as backup to my D3s. I like the idea of a cropped sensor camera to make maximum use of my longer lenses. I have considered the D2Xs but not only do they run to quite a lot of cash for a 2nd body but the technology is getting a bit long in the tooth. D300 is another option but the prices put me off a little bit. I have come around to the D90 as being reasonably priced, apparently a decent performer and has video capability, which I am making increasing use of.

Opinions ? pros and cons and even suggestions. Thanks

I find it strange no one has replied to this post yet.
I'm not a Nikon user but can say with confidence the D90 will be a very fine camera. Reason. there aint no bad cameras about at least with a good brand name, you can't in my opinion go wrong.

Hi Kenton, Im sure you will have read all the reviews on the internet by now so I could'nt possibly add anything to those review's technical wise
However I can give you my opinion.
Firstly after cracking a few shots off with my 50mm attached(good benchmark lens to use on any nikon body) and looking at the results, apart from the fact that I don't think the d90 was out when I purchased the d700, all I could think was why have I just spent nearly 2 grand on a body when I could have bought this for 600 quid?
The d2x is a cracking camera also and Ive produced some stunning shots with it, in good light. The sensitivity of the d90 sensor compared to a d2x is 'light' years ahead Im afraid. See what I did there, light, sensor
      I can't compare my d90 with your d3s as Ive never owned a d3s.
However compared to my d700, unless you are going to blow up and scrutinize every pixel there is little in it as I think Ive said in previous posts.
Battery life is very good and when needed I attach my grip for better handling, a more pro look and feel and even better battery life.
I think thats about all, the only downside for you is that you will have to purchase some fast sd cards.
There's lots of things I like about the camera but these are all covered in the many review's.
If you wan't to ride on the cutting edge of technology then you could always get the d7000 due out soon.
      cheers
      Ash.
