  • rumors --- for the sake of rumours

    Canon
    1. It looks like already well known globally. 60D. A guy observed in Tokyo on Aug.11 that a pro photographer (specialized in aircrafts) who(m) (?) he can recognize was taking still/movies with a camera not far away from the airport. He took some shots of the scene and posted a few of them at a rumor site here. He adds that he reads the letters "60D" on its strap. It has an articulating LCD.

Another romor site says that invitation cards from Canon to a press release to be held on Aug.26 have already been sent to people concerned. I understand it is just around the time of PHOTOKINA.

    2. Another rumor. Canon is searching for a MF camera manufacturer for purchase. Do they now feel threats from Pentax 645D? --- rather than from mirrorless models?
    I don't know.

Another guy responded to the rumour, saying
discontinued Contax brand could be a candidate.

These are just for fun, of course.

Re: rumors --- for the sake of rumours

    Hi Yoshi,
With Photokina approaching, the rumor mills should be in full production
A Canon DMF would be different. I can't remember their ever doing a medium format. They could buy Bronica from Tamron and get a variety of formats to play with.
I suspect that they have tapped into information about the needs of commercial photographers, like Leica did for their S2. It looked to many that Leica was taking a really big risk for a small company, but I think they really had a better idea of the commercial photography needs than suspected.
    Let the fun begin.

      Hi Bob,
Yes, you are right. Canon has never engaged in MF/LF business unitl now.
I think your idea of Bronica is interesting.
While Contax (here I mean Kyocera) had only short period of experience in MF and it was limited to 645 fromat,
Bronica had three different formats in MF, 645, 6x6 and 6x7 and had much wider lens availability than Contax.
Their 6x6 models, such as SQ, are especially interesting, as with a simple adapter,
it could be used as 645 or 135 type (i.e. so-called FF) format as well. In this digital age, such adapters are no more necessary though.
Its versatileness of formats seems to add more attractiveness in this digital age.

If Canon really goes the MF route, then they will most likely develope CMOS type sensor so you can use live view...
So the imagination goes on and on ...
This, however, will surely erode their advantages in FF market so the probability is ... Here I'm confused.
Hope that Leica will be successful in S2, BTW. They should be much more rewarded for the risks they have taken so far and they well deserve praise and rewards.
