When optical IS is turned on I hear a whirring noise from the camera is this normal. The camera is a Powershot A710IS. Emailed Canon but could take upto 5 days to get a reply.

No whirring noise is apparent on my G9, however there are other noises as you move the camera such as the aperture adjusting and focus readjusting. Do you have it on Continuous IS?
