  • SD Card compatibility

OK, this is my first post (Ever!! never used a forum in my life!!), hopefully it makes sense to you!!

    I'm getting myself slightly confused.

I'm trying to find out if my camera will take a high capacity SD Card namely 4Gb+ card.

I'm using the Samsung NV3, and will shortly be visiting America, so would like to have a lot of storage space without the need to constantly change memory cards over.

I've only had the camera for 10 days or so, and I've just started playing with its PMP functions, so chances are if possible I'll be going for the biggest possible card, so that I can also store some movies for the flight (in case the in-flight entertainment consists of nothing but 'U' rated films *shudder*)

    anyway...straying off the subject slightly.

if anyone knows anything that would be useful for me, gimmie a shout!!

    Thanks

    Andi

    Re: SD Card compatibility

Hi Andi, welcome to the forum, and congrats on your first post

I can see no reason why the camera can't take a 4GB card, unless the manual says something to the contrary.

From a picture taking Point of view, I think its too big, mainly because all your eggs are in one basket so to speak. However, if you do get one there will be plenty of space for your photos I imagine.

It seems though that you may want to use it for viewing movies and I see it does MP3's too. I suspect the biggest problem here may turn out to be battery life, which having read some reports is a bit suspect

      Re: SD Card compatibility

I can't really understand all of the reviews about the battery life, I really couldn't fault it (perhaps its my naivity when it comes to digital photography) but I've taken over 200 photo's and about 30mins of video, before I had to charge it (lasted 8 days before I had to charge it last night)

will find out about the battery life with video playback tonight (will be watching Prison break on my way home)

I've already got a standard 1Gb SD Card, and just ordered a new 2Gb Extreme III card, which will hopefully arrive in a few days. may just buy a couple more of the 2Gb cards, they would fit in my camera pouch so not a huge problem!

the PMP functions aren't my main concern, I already have a samsung T9 (MP3/MP4 player) and an iPod video, which will keep me entertained...but I'm sure you know what it's like when you get a new 'toy'!!

        Welcome Andi!

I'd be very surprised if the NV3 didn't take the new SDHC cards, but the official specifications we published earlier only guarantee 1GB compatibility. 2GB cards will definitely work and are probably better value.

yeah, I was very surprised when the manual said that 1Gb was guarenteed...would have expected it to be more!! a friend of mine has just bought the same camera (some people have no imagination lol), and the 2Gb extreme III SD Card, and it works fine for her.

so a selection of 2Gb cards it is for me!!

          thanks for the welcome!!
