I use XD cards in my Olympus camera and want to buy a larger size. Remembering my electronic days, I know that some memory chips are faster than others. Is this true in the different manufacturers of XD cards today?

Re: memory card speed
I'm reasonably sure that there are no third party sources of xD cards, so the brands you will see will be from the same factories that make the official Fuji and Olympus branded products. That said, the performance of xD cards as varied with memory size and there is 'high-speed' (Type-H) form available, though it's not high-speed with all xD devices, only those that have the latest enhanced memory controller, usually in selected more recent devices and cameras.Originally posted by dkandcar View PostI use XD cards in my Olympus camera and want to buy a larger size. If you can tell me which Olympus camera model you have I can find out whether or not it is going to benefit from type-H performance benefits.

Re: memory card speed
Unfortunately with the change in XD cards, they are not fully compatible with all the cameras of two years old. The XD card now has a built in buffer for the new cameras Fuli/Olympus are producing.
I looked and Fuji said mine was combatable, but the card when used added noise to the photos I never had before. I returned mine, and just bit the bullet that it was about time to buy another camera. This was a type M card, to bad Fuji recalled all the old stock, at least in the USA. Seems like a marketing ploy to me.
