  • 1.5 x Tele Converter

Hi Guys, I have a Canon S2 IS,

Will it be Worth it to buy the Canon 1.5 x tele converter ?

This will take my Camera to a 18 x Optical Zoom.

will I loose any Quality with this Tele Converter, like you loose with a Digital Zoom, or not ?

    Thank You
    Lou

    Hi Lou,

This type of converter fits over the lens of the camera - it will had some bulk to the front of the camera. It will also limit the use of the lens to the tele end of the zoom. If you zoom wide you will eventually get a circular border to your frame.

All converters are an optical compromise and you will lose some sharpness and contrast, but one advantage of conversion lens like the one you are thinking of is that they don't lose brightness like the type of converter that fits inbetween a lens and the camera body.

I'm mostly concerned about the cost of these conversion lenses - they can sometimes be horrendously expensive. How much are you thinking of paying?

I Ordered The Adaptor Ring on Friday, witch I need before I can Add tele or wide angel Convert....

I understand that wide angle I would need to take The lens of, Witch Should not be a problem.

I got a Few Quotes from different places, and The online shop "SACamara.co.za" (witch I found as a advert on your main Page) seems to be the Cheapest I can find. and its original Canon products.

They Charge at the moment R999 for the 1.5 x Tele converter and R999 for the wide angle converter.

So these 2 together is half the price I paid for the Camera itself.

Thus My Question If it is Worth it to go for this Adapter ?

Yes this adapter comes in the front of the camera, and might make it a bit bulk, however I would only add it on if I would like to use Full Zoom, and if I don't There is a quick relese for the Adapter and lens, So that should not really be a Problem.

Compared to DSLR lenses, I don't think its too expensive though

        Re: 1.5 x Tele Converter

        Hi!

My wife had a Canon A70, and got the adapter ring, and the tele converter (I think it was 2x) for that and it was superb! it did a wondeful job, this was the genuine Canon one.

However, a freind of mine who ordered one from Ebay, as a kit, which was pretty cheap, was awful! terrible distortion.

So I think you have done the right thing by paying a little more, and I dont think you will be disspointed. As Ian says though, when you zoom right out, you will get a halo effect (like a cartoon version of looking though a telescope haha! )

Have fun, and I look forward to seeing the results.
