I wonder why we don't see more 16:10 (1920x1200) monitors? 16:9 (1920x1080) is fine for movie watching, but I personally prefer 16:10 for computer work.

Exactly. I also wanted 1920x1200 but now it seems 1920x1080 is the mainstream. For PC use 16:10 is ideal, being the last part (120) for commands space or so.

This was one of the primary reasons why I chose a Dell 2412 when I bought a new monitor recently. There's a thread elsewhere here about that. What it comes down to is that the monitor market is really quite confusing and so, in order to narrow down my choices, I eliminated certain monitors immediately. I leaned towards 16:10, so I dismissed any monitor that was 16:9 from my radar (which turns out to be most of them). If I hadn't found a suitable 16:10 monitor then maybe I would have looked at the 16:9s, but I ended up not considering any of the 16:9s at all.

I guess 16:9 is more "popular" because of standards in manufacturing, so it keeps the costs down, but that hardly considers the requirements of the end user.

What initially steered me away from the 16:9s is that a 23" 16:9 (1920x1080) monitor is actually smaller in height than my previous 19" 4:3 monitor, so a 24" of the same would only be slightly larger, and 22" would have been noticeably smaller. It seems ridiculous that a 21"-23" monitor is smaller in height than a 19" monitor.

Ian's reviewing a 27" model, so I don't know how that would compare (obviously it'll be physically bigger in both directions even if it's limited to 1920x1080px), but I don't see myself looking at 16:9 models in the future.

I use a 24 inch 1920x1200 monitor at the office, which replaced a 22 inch 1600x1200 CRT. I think everything is relative. My laptop screen is 1366x768 (also 16:9) so it has more horizontal pixels than my old laptop (1280x800) but a few less vertical ones. I value the extra width but don't really miss the slight loss in vertical pixels.

The 27 inch AOC is substantially larger than the 24 inch one I have but does lose 120 pixels in height. I haven't positioned the two side by side yet. Will let you know

I'd be interested in seeing a photo of them side-by-side. I imagine 27" must seem enormous.
