So - are you going to sign up to Adobe's Creative Cloud? Are you already a subscriber? Or is this week's news going to make you seriously consider an alternative to Adobe?

I haven't upgraded from CS5 - and when my computer died last year I couldn't get it back, so bought the Premier Elements 11 bundle. Since I do most of my editing in Lightroom anyway, Elements is fine for any finishing off.

I also downloaded the free Perfect Effects 4 software - not sure whether that'd be sufficient on its own though.

I first got annoyed with Adobe in the late 90's when they took over CyberStudio and wanted silly money for a minor upgrade. The main point of the upgrade seemed to be the re branding of the software as GoLive. I don't know if GoLive still exists.

What was the problem regarding CS5 and your computer dying? Can I help in any way - CS5 is worth recovering, surely?

Re: Adobe's big gamble - goodbye retail Photoshop, Creative Suite

            Caz,

I also lost CS5 when my desktop died but I was able to install it on a new laptop as I'd only had the one installation (on the PC). Two installations are or were allowed. You may well find you can install it on your new computer no bother. Faling that phone Adobe uk, explain the problem and they can deactivate your previous installation on the PC that died (that's what I did).

I've since upgraded to CS 6 and intend to keep going with that, well as long as possible anyway.

I also have Elements 11 on a small laptop and it's a brilliant programme imho I don't like LR but Elements does all I want from it no bother. If I ever find I can't manage to stay with CS6 I'd be happy enough with Elements alone.

I think (I may be wrong) but no upgrades to CS6 allowed now (the cut off was in December) if you wants CS6 now you have to pay the full price!!
                Regards Paul.

That's right, I've just been looking more closely into it.

I cursed when my PC died, just before Xmas, but I'm glad it happened when it did as it forced me to look into upgrading from CS5, which I'd been delaying.

I upgraded to CS6 in early January this year and noted, and mentioned to Ian, that the activation was very different. It required online registration too. That was when I'd first heard the details about CC.

I'm also glad I bought Elements 11 as a temporary measure for my smaller laptop. I like it, it's a good programme with many of the main PS features anyway. Ideal once you get used to the interface and finding the tools you want.

In short - I was forced to look at image editing software when my PC died and I had to rely on cheap laptops - one 12" the other 17.3". I have CS6 on the larger laptop and Elements 11 on the small one.

                        Patrick,

Can you have CS6 on more than one PC, or on a PC and a laptop (two or more installations) if you're a subscriber?

I have the CS6 update disc, installed it on my larger laptop. If I took up the offer of subscription (at £7 for the first year) would I be able to use CS6 on both my laptops if I wished, or also on a new desktop at some point too.

P.S ... persevere with Elements 11. I was bedfuddled by it too when I first installed it on the small lappy, then I looked at some Adobe TV tutorials and it began to make sense to me and I began to like the programme. The tutorials explained the positions of the tools etc. Not as nice as PS interface but fine once you get used to it.

I'm guessing not many have actually read all of the terms and agreements section of Creative Cloud.
