The shot I went for is one taken at Spirit Island on Maligne Lake in Jasper National Park. Its one of the most photographed places in the Rockies, and rightly so because its absolutely beautiful. The photo though was not ideal in terms of exposure, so I decided to see what I could do with Lightroom. This is the shot imported into LR2.

I never cease to be amazed by what I can do to an image in Lightroom alone. With selective use of the adjustment brush and some tweaking of brightness, contrast, clarity etc., its not difficult to pull the shot back to give a very pleasing result.

The whole purpose of all this was because I have decided to get a Canvas print made of this photo. I took many shots at Spirit Island, but this one is slightly different to the regular view. If you Google Spirit Island there are hundreds of shots which show it in a more traditional way with the copse of trees more in the middle and with a view down the lake. I think this captures all the elements of the place with a different composition, so I feel justified in ordering a 80x60cm canvas print
Does that mean I should give up Elements? ;-)
