Things have been looking up over the last few days during our stay in Jasper. As I type the sun is shining, there is a clear blue sky and we have just got in from another great day in the area. Someone told us over a week ago that Jasper was one great big railway siding. I can understand what they meant to some extent as the rail line travels down the the full extent of the side of the town. The trains come through pretty regularly, but these are no ordinary trains. They seem to go on forever, mostly goods, carrying tankers, containers, coal, wheat and goodness knows what else, there is often 2-3 engines pulling and another at the rear. Catch one at a level crossing and you know you can have a wait of maybe 10mins as it trundles past

Anyway, yesterday we went up to Maligne Lake and Medicine Lake, and we saw our first Elk, just grazing by the side of the road.

Just after taking the shot we stopped again to take this shot of Medicine Lake. It looks pretty empty and it seems the level fluctuates throughout the year, at the other end there was more water.

At Maligne lake further up the road, things were looking good, though frankly the sun was in the wrong direction. We decided to take the boat trip up the lake to Spirit Island. Its one of those iconic views in the Rockies, I'm afraid to say it had to be done

On our way back I just had to take this shot

Today we have been up the Jasper Tramway, a cable car that takes you up Whistler Mtn. The conditions were about as good as it gets with fantastic panoramic views of Jasper and the surrounding Mtns.

Tomorrow we have a flight booked over the Rockies and the icefields as well as the Maligne lake district, it should be stunning if the weather holds
