After the downpour on Saturday night my first thought was that it would rain again but it was a lovely day. The air fresher for the rain. Also the organisers had put the course mainly under the trees so it wasn't too hot.
Ian dropped Amy, Lara and me off in good time and we joined, what seemed like, thousands of other women near the start-line. This year there were two distances - 5km and 10 km, and three sections. The runners went first to a huge cheer, next the joggers and last but not least the walkers. It took us ages to get over the start line.
As you can see from the photos there were women in bunny ears, cowboy hats and even one dressed as the Pink Panther. The theme is 'pink'. I wore last year's teeshirt (this year's sold out before we registered).
The whole event is extremely well organised and conducted. We were cheered all the way round by the marshalls and at the finish line an incredibly enthusiastic compare cheered us home.
The sense of achievement is huge, even if you only walked the 5km as we did. You feel part of something much, much bigger. You only have to read the messages on the backs of the others taking part to know that it is a couple of hours on a Sunday morning well spent.
Lara wants to jog it next year. So I had better start the training too.
