..don't rush out to buy one just yet.
In the early hours of this morning a press release was issued via email with the subject line: "Canon announces the sales start for EOS-1D X" - which you might think was is just as well considering the camera was first announced at the beginning of October last year.
We're the best part of five months on from the original announcement but today's press release simply says that the camera will be available at the end of April - so you will have to wait another two months to get your hands on a 1DX.
Meanwhile Nikon announced their competitor to Canon's 1DX, the D4, last month and it should be reaching dealers' shelves about now. Nikon is an official partner of this year's 2012 Lonodn Olympics, albeit only for binoculars and digital rangefinders, but one wonders if Canon was an Olympics partner whether pro photographers could trust Canon to get their new cameras to photographers in time for the games. I exaggerate of course, but the amazingly long gap between announcement and delivery of the 1DX does at the very least raise a few eyebrows.

#1Ian commented12-04-12, 09:33 PMEditing a commentCanon has just put the release date of the 1DX back to mid-June (this year, though) - the press release actually included the year :). That will make it 8 months since it was originally announced. Canon's new EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM lens is slated for early-July. The released ended: "We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused to customers."
