A story in today's news that caught the eye is about a man in Sussex who lost his iPad tablet while shopping just before Christmas. Unfortunate, yes, but captivating? Absolutely, because the iPad has transmitting photos it has taken since it went missing - to the owner's phone.
A man wearing a woollen hat is in the photos and his image is now being circulated in order to help trace the missing iPad. You can see one of the photos on the BBC web-site.
The sophistication of mobile devices seems to respect no bounds, as this example testifies. Although it's unlikely that the automatic photo forwarding was not set up as a solution for security purposes, there are several apps available that can help thwart theives or help owners who have mistakenly lost their smartphones or tablets by sending messages, including GPS and mobile network location data when the devices go missing. But photographing someone handling the lost device or being photographed by it - that's a stroke of genius.
