The user-reviews website Reevoo has been in touch about its recent survey on how gadgets, including digital cameras, fare when you go on holiday. And the results are, a) depressing, and b) a bit odd.
The headline news from the survey goes like this:

44% of us have missed or ruined a great photo because we couldnt work our camera properly
22% of us have lost or damaged our gadgets on holiday, costing us 209 each
We spend an average of 154 when buying digital cameras
None of this contentious - seems more than believable. But see what you think of some other conclusions from the survey concerning best picks for holiday photography:

Best overall: Nikon D700
Best for kids: Vtech Kidizoom Plus Multimedia Digital Camera
Best waterproof: Fujifilm Finepix Z33WP
Best for active holidays: Olympus [MJU:] Tough-8000
Best compact: Casio EX-S12
Best under 100: Kodak EasyShare Z915
Best SLR under 500: Sony Alpha DSLR-A330L with 18-55mm lens
So a Nikon D700 is the best holiday camera? Yeah, right!
And just what is a Vtech Kidizoom Plus Multimedia Digital Camera anyway?
Best SLR for under 500? A Sony Alpha DSLR-A330L with 18-55mm lens? Yes, ponder that for a few moments.
I understand that the data in the report was mined from Reevoo's own site visitors, around 2,000 of them. I'm personally very wary of sites that depend on user reviews. They are often marketed as impartial, but my experience of browsing such sites is that huge numbers of products listed have no reviews at all and those that do attract reviews tend to be dominated by people who are a) desperate to justify their purchase or b) people who have had bad experiences (and/or given up on a)) that may simply be down to a poor decision to purchase in the first place. But that's just my opinion.
