  • Overnight spam attack - new member registration temporarily closed

We had a significant attack from spammers last night and into this morning - more than 20 malicious accounts were registered. Thankfully, little damage was done but because of the sheer volume of the attack the new member registration facility is suspended until later today.

If you are looking to register on the site, please email [email protected] and I will help you to register manually. Assuming you aren't intending to spam us

I know how frustrating it can be. Twice I've had to shut down and recreate forums for my ski club. I finally gave up. Thanks for keeping on top of this and for hosting this great resource.

Thanks Pat - it's an ongoing challenge that we relish!

I got fed up with this on my own forum awhile back. Now I only let people register with approval from the admin (i.e. me!). I have to clean out the attempted registration backlog from time to time, but that's better than getting their cr*p all over my forum.

I'm quite fortunate in my website, my web partner is very experienced PHP programmer and he has made it very difficult for the bots to get access thankfully, otherwise I think we would be struggling like this and many other forums I know.

I think so too. Is it because they can get money or other incentives from doing that sort of things -I wonder.
