it was made by a firm called "art plus". the latest version does loads of different file types including RAW CR2 etc as well as video and audio files. $25 for the full licence. demo version will show you what images it can recover as well recovering audio / video files FoC.

    Re: Photo recovery

a program i've used in the past was photorec.exe
it would only recover jpg files though, so if you used raw formats, you were stuck that said, the program was from a time when RAW didn't really exist as an option for saving digital photos. no doubt there are more up-to-date alternatives.

as far as formatting goes, there are different types of format. a quick format (which is what is usually used) merely resets the file allocation table (FAT) which is the index used by the computer to find the 1's and 0's that make up the files. until you start over-writing these 1's and 0's, the data is still retrievable.
there are some utilities that will do a secure format / delete which go about overwriting all of the 1's and 0's on the drive / card, but these are not the standard.

    Re: Photo recovery

Andy and Pat, thank you for the feedback. Ended up going to Photo Recovery, I think they were spun off from SanDisk. Ended up costing $39 for a one year subscription but it worked well and I have my pictures back. I've bookmarked Andys suggestion and if I ever have problems again I will give it a try.

Tom, if they had just been deleted, you could probably restore them. Once the card is formatted, I believe they are irretrievably lost. Check a few more sources to be sure but I believe you're out of luck.

Ian, you would know for sure.

I have formatted a SanDisk 16 GB Extreme card before I downloaded photos.
Have tried a few online recovery programs but no luck. Anyone have suggestions.
