When I lived in Durban there were a couple of different bats! The small ones as well as very large Fruit bats! The fruit bats loved the banana trees in our garden & feasted well! Here in Melbourne there are huge bats....which they call Flying Foxes! I watch them almost every morning (about 5.30 am) flying to some destination west of us! There are literally 100's...like flocks of birds! We have a few resident ones that make an awful din chiding (screeching) each other as they take off or land on branches of roosting tree!
I thought flying foxes and fruit bats were the same thing? These were common when I was living in Jakarta back in 1971, especially when we visited Bali.

Well spotted in the second shot - they are bats in flight too, with their shadows on the wall behind cast by the on-camera flash.
I could see and hear bats flying around but I didn't see any on the screen on the camera at the time, so these are a pleasant surprise! I think the there are several types of bat as the bigger one seems lighter in colour than the others, which are practically black and smaller too.

I'm pretty certain you're right about there being several species of Bats though I'd have to look it up.
We have them flitting back and forth in the line of Oaks behind the house.
I've never tried getting any photos of them. Too dark outside and they're also too fast.
I certainly see at least one bat in the first one. Super shot and the bat makes it extra special because it's so clear, so easily seen complete with its open wings. Fantastic!
Are they drawing on the walls in the seocnd one - or are they more bats with their shadows showing?
