Would this qualify as public sector architecture? Its a section of the 'Duomo' Florence, Italy!

My effort is the Totnes Guild Hall built in 1088 and still used today for Council Meetings.

Re: DPNow Salon Comp No 85 is 'Public Sector Buildings'

Jocelyn, I wouldn't normally class a cathedral as a public sector building, I'm really looking for buildings owned by an arm of a state rather than a religious organisation. Mind you, that could make for interesting discussions around churches in the Vatican...

Coupla days left folks. I didn't spec a finishing time so you can reasonably assume entries will be ok til midnight Tuesday.

Nobody in UK got any interesting pics of public sector buildings being used as polling stations? Apparently in Nottingham they were using the castle gatehouse, unfortunately didn't find out til too late. Obv I can't enter but would have liked to have snapped that.

This is not an entry, but a photo of our Polling Station on the day of the 2005 General Election.

We went down to vote, only to find that the car park was closed. There were also No Parking Notices on the road.

Apparently the Members of the Scout Association had done a deal and been offered free resurfacing of their car park. I don't suppose that it ever occurred to them that the General Election was being held on that day.

I actually took the photo as an entry for our club competition 'Humour' but never used it as it was not good enough.

Re: DPNow Salon Comp No 85 is 'Public Sector Buildings'

I did set off to work yesterday morning with good intentions of snapping an image for this comp, however after making sure my battery was charged for the d90 and checking my camera as you do the night before, who left the camera on the dining room table yesterday morning? Yes this numpty! Just about any other subject matter I probably could have covered from shots on my drive so well done for thinking of a tricky subject.
Unphased by the slip up at least I brought back something.

Huddersfield Magistrates taken with my phone.
Even taking this with my phone I felt uneasy as there are street security camera's everywhere in Hudds, taking pictures of public sector buildings probably is'nt a wise hobby

A liberal interpretation of the theme, the bullring in Ronda, Andalucia, Spain. Reputed to be the oldest in Spain and the spiritual home of bullfighting. It is owned and operated by the municipality of Ronda and thus qualifies as a public building, just !

Is the bullring "converted" from a Roman amphitheatre? just wondered - there's two Roman buildings remaining in Cartagena: the actual theatre itself, and an amphitheatre which was used for bullfighting until some time late in the last century.

To honest I don't know but I don't think so. I believe the bullring was purposely constrcuted sometime in the 18th century. With Ronda being a Roman town, it is quite possible that it was constructed on the site of a Roman building.

Sorry for the delay folks but I had to have a bit of a think about this.

I have decided that the winner of this comp is Andrew Thatcher. I really liked the brooding menacing pic of a building which has probably seen some pretty menacing stuff be planned inside. So, providing he hasn't been spirited away by the Feds Andrew will be sorting the next comp.

The two runners up are Autumn and Bear and I really couldn't split them into a 2nd and 3rd. Both lovely buildings, great composition and beautiful colours.

Thanks for the opportunity to curate the comp, over to Andrew for the next one.
