I joined DPNow mostly to have my photos critiqued and thought I'd get my feet wet with this shot. Generally I think my photographs are strong graphically but weak on content. This one is an exception, though what it says I'm not sure. I'd like to hear what anyone thinks about it, technically and emotionally, or in any other way. Thanks.

Re: Feet and a body
Hi Blank page,
Great photo, having been a pro printer for many years, the less I criticize the content of the image, the reason is that each one is to their own, some mimics other's work and later created their own style, because no one could ever fully think like another, the harder they try, the more of themselves comes through the images, after all photography is capturing what we see in our minds.
IMO, it's not the photography, is their printing (now digital processing) that lets the photograh down, most don't know that over time we do develop our own style, basically is our biased way to see the world in our eyes. I think we should spend more time to process our images, learn and play around with different techniques, and make great looking photographs.

Like Danny, I really like this one. OK it is obviously staged, but the effect is very striking - well done!

Re: Feet and a body
I don't know if I've been at digital photography long enough to develop a style, though I tend to prefer my photos to look as natural as when I took them. Just a persoanl preference I guess because I see great images both here and elsewhere that have obviously been altered in the digital "darkroom" that are very striking. One of these days I'll get to playing around with my imaging software to see what happens. (I've also found that sometimes it takes quite a bit of work to make a photo look natural, for example, revealing shadow detail without washing out the highlights--I still have a lot to learn there.)Originally posted by Danny Chau View PostGreat photo, having been a pro printer for many years, the less I criticize the content of the image, the reason is that each one is to their own, some mimics other's work and later created their own style, because no one could ever fully think like another, the harder they try, the more of themselves comes through the images, after all photography is capturing what we see in our minds.

And I appreciate the time you took to work on the picture yourself, although in the final analysis I found it a bit too dark and still prefer the original, but again, thanks for giving it a go and showing me your take on it.

Yes, it's a rather melodramatic poseOriginally posted by Ian View PostLike Danny, I really like this one. OK it is obviously staged, but the effect is very striking - well done!
. It was actually my friend's idea to lie there for a picture and the feet were a happy accident I noticed when I was framing it. I could work on being a better director maybe.

Yes, the only shooting I do now is with a cameraOriginally posted by lumix View PostI've had a look at all your images on your web site and got to say I'm impressed. This one reminds me of the kind of shot you see on TV when a killer is looking down on his victim. Hope you only shot him with your camera.
. The last time I shot a rifle was at a jackrabbit who went bounding away with a bloodied hind leg flopping behind. I spent an hour trying to find it so I could put it out of the misery I had put him in, but wasn't able to. It was around that time that I discovered photography. I wonder if that was a coincidence...

You wouldn't happen to be a publisher of thriller books who needs a cover shot, would you?Originally posted by Pops View PostUnusual set up but very effective. Would look good on the front cover of a thriller bok
