Took these this weekend. Stopped on the way back from the beach to take some wildflower pics and then noticed the dead trees on the other side of the road were actually in a swamp. It looked quite speccy with the green reeds contrasting with the dead teatrees (burnt a couple of years ago) but I'm not sure I've really caught it. The branch across the second photo is a pain, but I couldn't reach it from clear ground and wasn't about to go for a swim.

Re: Swamp
Hi Jo - lots of potential there - you are so lucky to have such interesting countryside!
I might experiment by adding some saturation to warm the tree wood up and add a bit of richness. Not convinced it would definitely work but you never know. It does look a bit cold as it is. A mono conversion might be interesting too.

Re: Swamp
I'm not brilliant with conversions either - my husband 'sees' mono opportunities, I'm not so good at it.Originally posted by JoLeady View PostThanks for the suggestions Ian. I didn't do a very good job with the saturation, but here's a black and white. I don't really like it - might need a bit more processing....I need more practice at that too
Have you ever tried the "Virtual Photographer" plugin from Optic Verve labs? It's free, highly configurable and does excellent conversions. Well worth trying - Free download from here
Have fun.

Jo, I've just been doing some searching and it seems the 'Virtual Photographer' plugin works with Gimp 2.2.7 -- according to this site.
Scroll down and see what it says in the blurb alongside 'Virtual Photographer'.
So maybe you'll be able to get it working ok if you have, or update to Gimp version 2.2.7.

Re: Swamp
This is a very old thread and unfortunately the original poster hasn't been around these parts for about a year so they probably won't spot your query. I don't use the Gimp myself but I just did a Google search with the phrase 'Photoshop plugins in Gimp' and it came up with a good list of results.Originally posted by alpreston View PostWhich gimp plugin did you have to download first?
Apparently there's a PSPI plugin (photoshop plugin) for the Gimp and I imagine that may be the one you need, though you would probably know more about it than me.
I also came across a link HERE that might be helpful for explaining a bit more about it.
Hope that helps point you in the right direction.

Re: Swamp
Thanks for replying for me, Pol. And good grief, has it really been that long!?!?!? Things have been a bit hectic lol.
Sorry, I really can't remember which Gimp plugins I used, I've moved on to version 2.4.2 and a lot of the old ones don't work now, so I need to go scrounging again when I get time. If you're using Gimp, http://www.gimptalk.com/ is a great resource.
Edited to add that I do remember reading in there somewhere that the b&w conversion in Gimp has copped some flack for not being particularly good.

I'm really glad you're here because I only ever looked at the Gimp very briefly one time several years ago and I never really used it ( I use PS) - was just having a quick glance at it as a favour for a friend.

Re: Swamp
Thanks - I had a look at the links in Pol's post, noted that the offered PSPI
downloads were quite old (I also have Gimp 2.4.2) and was concerned they might not work with the current versions of Gimp and Linux. I may have a go at compiling the source package they offer.
