I don't do critique.

I have studued the picture long and hard. I like it very much in a strange way. It looks as if you have placed the couple on another image, but when you look closer you can see movement here and there which disproves that. It is the movement that just spoils (only a very small amount) it slightly for me.
Otherwise it looks quite surreal and a very good take.

I note the young lady shoots with Nikon.

Very interesting picture.

For me the B&W works well as it allows me to focus on the composition. There does seem to be a slight slope to the top of the picture in the background and my eye keeps going back to that. My final thought is that if the couple were pin sharp and showed no movement at all then the picture would be even more engaging.

Tom, my first impression on seeing this image is that the main couple had been superimposed onto another image but, as Barrie said, on further inspection this is not the case. It seems to me that the lady on the left has been retouched or you have painted out something from around the feet.

Apart from that it is a very good and unusual composition. The position of the couple's head show which way they are looking and draw my eye to to centre of the large portrait.

Hi Tom, it looks to me very surrealistic. As if the couple is in front of a hole picture in picture like situation. I would have liked a little more focus on the couple. They look very intimate (in the soul area!) sharing that beautiful intant. Te peope to the right, (behind a table?) look like a jury or somewht very forceful to the image. And the guy is looking in that direction. wow.

Perhaps if you made the couple in the foreground a bit darker so that they stand out more from the background, it would give the picture more depth! Obviously you can not achieve pin sharpness for the couple now, so darkening them would give more definition maybe!
Actually, the opposite could give a better result! Make a selection of the couple, select inverse and then auto tone the background! This would darken the background a bit! Then hit inverse again and auto tone the couple, makes them lighter! This would give more depth perhaps!

Thanks very much everyone for taking the time to reply.
My idea for this photograph was that the couple would integrate into the picture and become part of the painting. I think having them very sharp or standing out any more than they are now would not have aided this intention.
I don't believe this shot has worked very well though; the main problem I feel is one of scale.
I have a couple more with more movement from the onlooker or passing viewer so hopefully I can make one of them work better.
