We both know that on that forum it's been discussed not only by us but by the moderaters as well and rejected .
Problem is proberbly because it's such a large varied forum with many sub-forums bandwidth is an issue .
I'll stay on there but i've cut down my usage a lot and most of the other members are using outside photosites and link their photo's to that . including a moderater , who i suspect is also on here with a new user name .

We have upgraded our forum hardware three times since DPNow was started in 2001 and I expect we will be upgrading in the new year again. It's no good at all if bandwidth limits a user's enjoyment.

Thanx for the replies! I've used the multiple updoad before using 250k jpegs but wouldn't know at this stage how to use the zip upload! I guess it just sounds complicated & possibly a lot easier than i imagine! Doesn't the compression to 250k cause an image to lose a lot of pixels & therefore definition or quality? (It's probably not as noticeable with shots taken with a DSLR) i.e more noticeable for shots taken with compact, having only5 megapixels? I guess being very new to digital I have a lot to learn & comprehend, so bear with me if I sound like a dolt!

Zip uploading has no effect on JPEG image quality as it uses lossless compression. It's purely for convenience as you can prepare a batch of images on yoru computer, all zipped up in one file that is uploaded instead of several separate files. It's mainly of use if you need to upload more than 5 pictures

I used another forum for years (still do) that only allows 800 wide and a max of 100kb , i got so used to it that i still make that my default size .
Don't think any of my gallery pics are much over 120mg , a lot are under 100 and i don't think suffer too much from image degregation (do they )
But with more and more members having broadband , bigger file sizes should'nt be the problem they were when everyone had dial-up .

You are exactly right B.. but the forum I have in mind has a limit of 550pix wide

The image size limit for a single JPEG image is 250K, both for gallery uploads or for forum attachments. This limit is quite generous for displaying imags at screen resolution. We don't cater for storing full-size high resolution images.

You can upload up to 5 separate images at a time, or a single Zip archive (maximum size 4MB or 4096K) that can contain as many images as you can fit into the Zip file, though the same per-image limit of 250K applies.

The average size of images uploaded to the gallery us 180K.

It is a bit confusing innit! Somebody should write a simple page of instructions for the various uploads. What I understand is, a maximum size of 250kb for a jpeg upload to a forum; then a 4096 kb maximum for a jpeg to your gallery; or a Zip upload of a maximum 2.05MB to your gallery.
If I'm wrong someone will put us right.

I'm a little confused re the download size of files we can use to post photos in our gallery or albums! In one instance it said file sizes were increased from 200kb to 250kb, but is that only for attachments to the forum? Is it possible to download pics up to 1.5Mb or not in our albums? Sorry if I'm being a tad stupid!
