Help..Whats the best free tool to compress your images??
Help..Whats the best free tool to compress your images??
Hallo everyone, well after a long trip, i have hundreds of images that need to be compressed. I basically have no more storage space, plus compressing them would ensure that transfering the images will be easy peasy!. I would love to get personal reviews on what exactly you think works best when it comes to tools that are free. Thank you

Hi Rodbender how nice of you to offer some help. Unfortunately, it seems to me that what you shared is more of a file optimizer as opposed to an image compressor. I maybe wrong, feel free to correct me if i am.

Yes it would appear that way, but it dose a very good job of image files too. I did look at it's ratings before downloading it and it was highly praised for its capabilities. As I say it has never failed to work ok for me.

Easy Thumbnails specifications: system requirements and supported image formats
BTW don't be put off by the name if the software .... you can choose tge size of your 'thumbnail' yourself ... it diesn have to be a small thumbnail.
sorry a I can't help much, I'm incapacitated and only able to use,a. small kindle with a fat stylus.

Well done Pol for bringing this to our attention. I have for years now been using Easy Thumbnails to resize my images before uploading to a web host ready to post on forums. Never gave it a thought that this programme compresses images. I have always used File Optimizer to reduce storage size when saving to external hard drive or DVD. I can recommend Easy Thumbnails as a good program and there are loads of options to set the software up to your personal preferences. This could well be just what you are looking for.

This was super useful!. I guess you are right! File Optimization would be the very first step to reduce the amount of space occupied when saving to an external hard drive. I will check out the program you recommended. Thank you.
Re: Help..Whats the best free tool to compress your images??
Do give Easy Thumbnails a go too. It's great for preparing images to upload to a forum. Will resize to forums max display size and reduce the upload time no end. I use the Lanczos3 algorithm setting and the Quality of images is unaffected.

This is a good tip that i didn't think of before. Thank you for suggesting it!
Re: Help..Whats the best free tool to compress your images??
Well back to the topic, i was reading more on image compression and came across a blog post here that had summarised it quite well. I found out that i can also use Caesium image compressor, a tool for windows to actually do this! Incase you have a Mac, there is a mac version of this and its the ImageOptim, both of which are freeware. Needless to say, i will be trying out the Windows version of this freeware tool this weekend.
Re: Help..Whats the best free tool to compress your images??
A bit late to the game, but I've been using JPEGmini for a few years now and have no complaints.
I think it was the catchphrase - Your photos on a diet - that caught my eye initially.
Re: Help..Whats the best free tool to compress your images??
To reduce size of images without loosing pixels and quality, google photos is a great place for that. However, there are other tools for compressing images you can use:
1.*Compressor.io
2.*Kraken.io
3. PNG Compressor*||*jpg compressor
4.*Tinypng
5.*OptimiZilla
6.*ImageRecycle
