Does anyone have any news about the new Picturemate printers?

One seems to have a built-in CD burner but the most notable "feature" seems to be this continuing trend of Epson's to go back to the Dark Ages by making these 4-colour printers.
And, also, these inks are dye inks (not the pigment of the original PMs) leading to Epson stating "print photos that last generations, and longer than traditional, film-processed photos". Instead of being able to quote the now-legendary 104+ years from WIR (the original PM), they have to resort to Kodak-style generic descriptions such as "that last generations" which means nothing to anyone. In some circles, a "generation" is regarded to be as little as 20 years - is that what Epson are saying?
These PMs sound like a major step backwards for Epson. Were the original PMs too expensive to produce or something?
