When a new firmware for D3 is announced, then the launch of D3X is not far away? 
Nikon announced a new firmware ver. 1.10 “for” D3 for both PC and Mac. The new feature added is “vignetting control”. This feature however does not work on DX lenses and works only on some other complicated (for me) conditions. There are some other improvements as well.
At the global Nikon site, I cannot find the download link so allow me to link to their Japanese site. (Maybe better to wait for a few more days to read those “complex” conditions in English.?)

A guy analyzed the new firmware using a text editor and found followings. He guesses that a strange/unknown resolution applies to D3X. (the top one 24.4Mp)

Based on this info and with his own speculation, another guy says, resolutions of D3X must be 24.4Mp with FX format, 20.4Mp with 5:4 format and 10.5Mp with DX format.
Most people share the understanding that the firmware is ready for the coming D3X and so it will not be that far away.
