SMaL Camera Technologies announce The World's Thinnest and Lightest Digital Camera

Released by SMaL Camera Technologies:

SMaL Camera Technologies Enables The World’s Thinnest And Lightest 1.3 Megapixel Digital Camera by Oregon Scientific

Camera Release Also Announced Today in a Separate Statement by Oregon Scientific

Who:
SMaL Camera Technologies, a developer of digital imaging solutions and the award-winning 6mm thin Ultra-Pocket® VGA digital still camera.

Oregon Scientific, a leading designer of award-winning, upscale personal electronic products

What:
SMaL announced today that it has enabled the 1.3-megapixel flash thincam™ (model DS6628) by Oregon Scientific, based on SMaL’s 1.3-megapixel digital imaging technology and design. The innovative camera is only slightly thicker than its “world’s thinnest” credit card-sized predecessor, the Oregon Scientific DS6618, released in 2002. The new 8mm thin camera offers unprecedented portability with megapixel resolution, allowing users to capture spontaneous images that can be printed as high-quality photos.

SMaL’s Longevity™ ultra-low-power design is the primary enabler of the camera’s uniquely thin credit card-sized design and battery life for 1000 snapshots between battery recharge – an advantage of 10 to 20 times over other digital cameras.

Oregon Scientific’s 1.3-megapixel camera features SMaL’s proprietary Autobrite® technology, which adapts to bright lighting conditions such as backlighting or glare, solving the dynamic range problem that exists with most other digital cameras. Users no longer have to worry about the position of the sun when snapping a photo -- Autobrite solves this problem for them. The camera also features an SD memory card slot, macro mode for close-up shots, and a compact plug-in strobe flash unit, completing the total portability of the camera.

When:
Date of Announcement: July 25, 2003
Release Date: Camera will be available in Europe and North America in August of 2003

Why:
SMaL Camera Technologies created its credit card camera platform in response to consumer demand for lifestyle products that offer portability, long battery life, style, quality and value.

Company Quote:
“Consumer reaction to the first generation Oregon Scientific credit card-sized camera, enabled by SMaL, was tremendous, so we are excited to help Oregon Scientific bring the 1.3 megapixel version to market,” said Stuart Nixdorff, vice president, sales and marketing, SMaL Camera Technologies. “We plan to continue our leadership in the credit card size camera category by enabling uniquely portable lifestyle products.”

“Oregon Scientific’s goal is to help consumers capture those priceless moments when they wish they had a camera,” said Paul Zimmerman, president of Oregon Scientific, in a separate statement released today. “The Oregon Scientific flash thincam™ continues to revolutionize photography for the average consumer, offering both technical features and high quality photos in a thin, lightweight, convenient product that is reasonably priced.”
